When you get married

I was forewarned by my  beloved friends about the perils of going to shopping with wife. But you just can't avoid this.(Couldn't convince her I have a stomach-ache every time).
I indeed listened carefully to the words of wisdom by my friends who were married for a long time about the do s and don't s.

It was Marks and Spencer, Camberly.People told that it is one of the biggest stores in UK and contains all the new collections and varieties.First mistake. We went in the morning just after having breakfast. She just skimmed through women's section and told me..

"Ennanga, let's start with cardigan/tops first, move on to jeans then shoes and finally to accessories section if we have time else we will shop for accessories in Central London, enna sollreenga"

Very systematic!

She started browsing/selecting/going to trial room/asking my opinion--not necessarily in the same order. Then came a bouncer.

"Ennanga, does this dress look good"-pointing me to a model wearing a costliest clothing in the advert picture which I was looking.

You should tread carefully. You should understand the ambiguity in the question. The  answer you give will have consequences which may potentially last for a very long time.

If you say, "It looks good for the model in the picture", odds are that you will not get good food for at least a week.

Neither should you ask," Do you mean, will it look good if you wear"

I gave an assuring smile and told her,"You should certainly try this.."
We had lunch in the cafeteria in M&S.

I was holding her three selected shirts and sitting in the only available cushion chair in front of the trial rooms section.I was about to stand to give the seat to a 60's something old man who came nearby clutching some clothes. He told me to sit.How nice of him.Seems he is also waiting for his wife.

He smiled at me and asked

"Waiting for your wife..?"

"Yes"

"Newly married...?"

"Yes"

Then he gave a (sarcastic)simper and said,

"Long way to go young man..."

The words still reverberate in my mind!

I  rarely do my office work at home.It was one of those occasion when a super critical 4G LTE  issue was escalated by our customer and starting from VPs to Directors to Senior managers were in the CC list of that mail. When I opened MS Outlook 2010 to update the thread, my wife came with a cup of tea and sat near me and looked at the mail.

I bragged her how critical the issue is, the importance of  the job I am doing and told her that it is being followed up by our experts across the globe and showed her the mug shot pictures of people in CC who were involved, which comes in the reading pane of Outlook.Looks like she was not really impressed.

"Seems you guys botched up something big time and your customer is chasing you folks,And those mug shot pics..." Then she gave a  pause, pondered and said,"Looks to me like the people responsible for this issue.. something like pictures of absconding criminals displayed in police station for a crime"

She then switched on the TV and started watching Big Bang Theory..

I think I should never do office work at home.

Olympics,Wimbledon,Euro 2012

Being in UK for 4 years,it would be a sin if I didnt watch Euro cup. Although I watched few of the group matches, watched all the matches from quarter-finals . Cristiano Ronaldo was seen all over the field.Wonder how many kilometeres he would have ran in the 90 minutes against Czech Republic in quarterfinals. It is not just about his second half header that put Portugal in the semi's(he came like a hurricane from nowhere to head that), he was smiling all through the game, encouraging team members to do better even though they do mistakes.People might disagree, but he is as good a team player as Messi.

Watching Germans playing against Greece in quarterfinals is a feast for the eyes. The way they do small passes and progress towards opponents goal-post and scoring the goal most resembles a group of highly skilled artists coordinating harmoniously to create a magnum opus.

Brazil/Argentina may play artistic foot-ball, but in the current form if there is a beauty in making passes, then Germany is the Sistine Chapel of football. Still wonder how they were beaten by the mediocre Italians in the semi's.

That Sistine Chapel thing..I did see that in Spain against Italy in Euro finals.Passes were of surgical precision. Spain taught Italy a lesson in counting...1,2,3 and 4.Spain is too strong a team for Italy. Germany Vs Spain in finals would have been a battle of equals. Seems Spain the greatest team in the Europe/World.

And it is a big surprise that England reached quarterfinals. English media in England, keeping with its tradition of talking up the team's improbable chances on the field, created the impression that England have the divine right to win the Euro 2012.They did the same during 2010 world cup. If they have a shred of shame, they would have stopped by now.But they did not. Then the media was abuzz with Andy Murray and his quest to win Wimbledon.!!

Wimbledon is just 25 mins from my home by train and I have never been there in the last 4 years.Dont want to regret few years down the line.So decided to go and see at least a match in outer courts if not in center court on day 6,saturday.Me and my wife reached wimbledon by 11:00 to see a loooong queue and the steward told us that the wait will be  5 to 6 hours to gain entrance.Didn't even waited this long to watch Rajini's movie..!!
Looks like people were camping overnight to watch the morning matches.

Queuing in The Queue is more like a picnic. There is a beautiful lake, small kiosks selling not-so-bad food in the lush greenery  and clean toilets around. And it was sunny.Couldn't have asked for more.Probably one of the well organized queue I have ever seen.Got the Ground admission ticket at 17:30 and watched a Girls singles and Mixed doubles match.Missed Bupathi/Sania Mirza match since it was played at 11:30 in the morning.
The winner of Girls singles on court 17 Belinda Bencic looked beautiful.Who knows she might one day become Maria Sharapova..!!

Luckily, we got the re-sale tickets for Center court around 20:00.Couldn't believe we made it to centre court.Wow, it is indeed beautiful.Saw the match between Andy Murray and Marcos Baghdatis. There is a huge support for Andy Murray and he played really well to win the match
Alas..He lost the finals to aging Federer. The quest(agony) continues.Anyone for Olympics..??

Fine.
I love this BBC animation advertisement for olympics. What if olympic events happen around all the landmarks in London/UK as visualized in this ad.Creativity at its best.
